Byrd played in his first pickleball tournament in 2016 at the intermediate (3.5) level. He improved to 5.0 and turned pro in 2017. By 2018 Byrd was playing at the highest level in tournaments around the country as a pro senior open player. He is sponsored by Team Selkirk and has participated in the Senior Open Division at the US Open, Nationals, Tournament of Champions and Las Vegas Open. He has been teaching individuals, groups and clinics for 8 plus years.
